“I passionately believe that understanding the influence your food and life choices have on how you feel, look and behave is a key first step in becoming, and staying, healthier.”

My path to happier eating

My personal experience of the ‘weight gain-loss-regain’ process started in my teens, forty-plus years ago. My sense of self had somehow become rooted in comments from people whose opinion really shouldn’t have mattered, opening my eyes to the judgemental nature of society.

My first tactic to “fitting in” was the standard “energy equation of eating less and moving more. and it worked: well, until I went back to my old ways, regaining all the lost weight and more.

Instead of becoming a happier, slimmer, eater, I jumped onto a joyless carousel of restrict-measure-binge-restrict. I lost touch with myself, with my natural in-built instincts, with my Inner Eating Expert.

Then I did something different. I moved to another country, experienced a different perspective on food, eating and health, and started to pay attention. Gradually  I returned to ‘normal’ eating. Shifting away from rigidly managing a number on a scale, I nurtured a deep interest in health, nutrition and food choice that returned with me to the UK.

Taking my interest in health and nutrition seriously, I qualified as a Nutritional Therapist, entering general clinical practise in 2005. My approach is firmly positioned in an awareness that health is about more than generic Public Health guidelines: nutrition matters, as do sleep, exercise, relaxation, and our mindset, including stress management.

Perhaps more importantly is how these considerations intersect with our choices.

Additional training – in Intuitive Eating, appetite re-training, clinical hypnotherapy, the Eating Freely method, and health coaching with Drs Stephen Palmer and Siobhan O’Riordan – underpin my focus on behaviour change management, regardless of the health issue we are addressing.

I am passionate about keeping my evidence-based knowledge up-to-date, meeting and exceeding my CPD obligations so that I can help you re-connect with your Inner Eating Expert. My approach is simple, practical, grounded in science, and designed with and for you – no-one else, just you. After all, one size neither fits nor flatters anyone.

Where's your best
fish and chips?

Yes, I know but, although generally considered “unhealthy”, an occasional, planned, indulgence can help you stay connected to healthier, happier, eating for the rest of the time.
By the way, mine are in North Wales, about three times a year, on a Thursday when the oil is fresh; I eat them on the beach, and share them with my family. No, I don’t feel guilty, and yes, they are delicious.
